Games targeted for girls feature washing dishies, rocking babies, ironing shirts, making sandwiches, and more…
22nd January 2009
MSNBC.com – If you’re looking for a lively debate, the topic of gender differences is a surefire winner.
In my last column, on Ubisoft’s games for girls, I asked readers to give me their take on gender-specific games. And I got some seriously strong opinions.
Take Allison Shefcyx, a self-described “girl gamer” who wrote that she found my story “quite depressing.” She has fond memories of a childhood spent playing games such as “Super Mario Bros.” and “Final Fantasy.” And she thinks girls deserve much better than Ubisoft’s Imagine series.
(Interesting read but I don’t really see what the big deal is if the target audience is 8 year old girls. But then again we probably need more 8 year old girls playing Halo to bring the smack down on the guys.)

You know what sounds like a great movie idea? Unleash Amy Winehouse near a bunch of troubled high school students. The thing will write itself
18th January 2009

Troubled singer AMY WINEHOUSE could soon be trading the recording studio for Hollywood – she’s been offered a part in a new movie, according to reports.
The Back to Black hitmaker has been sent a script by bosses at Universal Pictures who are interested in signing Winehouse up to play a music teacher in a problem school.
But she’ll only land the part if she can stay away from drugs, reports Britain’s The Sun newspaper.
A source tells the publication, “The movie is a bit like Michelle Pfeiffer’s film Dangerous Minds. Playing a music teacher will allow Amy to use her singing skills. Jonathan Rhys Meyers is being talked about as her co-star.
“She has been offered an acting coach called Matt Ryan from the Royal Academy of Music Theatre Department in London.
“But she needs to improve her health and state of mind, or the opportunity will be withdrawn. You can’t have a teacher looking like a scrawny crack addict. It’s hoped the offer will be an incentive for her.”
