In an interview with Black Film new cast member Bodjoe Kodjoe talked about his latest role in the next in the long line of Umbrella Corp films. Sadly there is no mention of the cloned Alice army, but he does reveal that the movie takes place in LA:

Boris Kodjoe: : I play the leader of the survivors in LA. Milla Jovovich’s character, Alice, is roaming the world looking for survivors and she’s wound up in LA, which has been burning for three years. She comes across an LA jail surrounded be these half-dead, uhh…[zombies]. Yeah, they’re those monsters, what are they called? Anyway, she comes across the jail and there’s a couple of survivors and she lands on top of the roof and partners up with me to fight the guys that are coming after them. We’re trying to get all of the survivors out of the jail to safety. We’re starting next week, actually.

He goes on to reveal that Ali Larter will also be returning and Miller’s new role is someone who already was in prison when everything went down.

I don’t know if you heard this or not, but something kind of major happened yesterday. One of the largest media companies in the world announced the acquisition of the largest comic book company in North America. Maybe you read about it.

Yesterday I posted a “Breaking the Internet in half” column discussing some of the knee-jerk comments that popped up after the announcement. I’m revisiting the issue because the comments haven’t gotten any better in the past 24 hours. Some folks have taken a step back to really start thinking about the long-term ramifications of the acquisition, but there are others that are like this, which I just read, and responded to, from Newsarama:

“This is all just terrible. Disney is a souless company that eats up younger more vibrant creative companies… This merger is just terrible. It will come back to bite Marvel, and the industry, over the next few years.”

“This was a money decision. And a bad one. Probably the worst. Marvel has had the best few years of it’s [sic] life.”

Today and tomorrow, I’d like to examine in more detail both extremes of the comments, and inject a little common sense. On Thursday, I’m going to go into more detail into an aspect of the story that isn’t getting enough examination, and one that may end up being the most important.

Variety reports the somewhat surprising news that Joe had grossed $91.6 million internationally by this time last week, almost matching the movie’s US take of $98.6 million, something which, according to studio Paramount, is definitely a strong enough base from which to launch a franchise. Think about that next time someone complains about US cultural imperialism.

Three companies belonging to Derek Anderson and Victor Kubicek, owners of the “Terminator” franchise rights and producers of May’s “Terminator Salvation,” have filed for bankruptcy just a day after the duo sued their investors for allegedly pushing them into a series of bad business decisions and placing what they claim is an illegal lien on their property.

Even though the movie has sold a healthy $370 million worth of tickets around the world and has yet to be released on DVD and in other post-theatrical markets, Anderson and Kubicek were unable to make a payment demanded by Santa Barbara hedge fund Pacificor, which financed their $30-million purchase of the “Terminator” rights and loaned $9 million for other operating expenses.

The guys who have written the last few Saw films made The Collector.This does not bode well for The Collector. Of the people in the cast, the biggest star is the third-billed lead on a show low on the ratings totem pole. This does not bode well for The Collector. The director of this film’s best contribution to the world of cinema was in co-writing Feast. This does not bode well for The Collector. The trailer seems to be selling a film totally geared around creating a new horror franchise by combining elements of Saw with other serial killer films and by having a villain with a signature mask. This does not bode well for The Collector. The person playing the title character has the birth name Juan de Jesus Fernández de Alarcon. This does not bode well for The Collector or the INS. The tagline for the film is I fuck your eyes with bad movie. This does not bode well for The Collector.

Hughes suffered the heart attack while taking a morning walk during a trip to NYC to visit family.

He directed such ’80s hit films as “The Breakfast Club,” “Pretty in Pink,” “Sixteen Candles” and “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.”

He was 59.

The news that Ridley Scott is to direct another movie in the Alien series that he kicked off in 1979 is bound to be interesting to true fans of the movie series in general, and the luminous original in particular. From the early 1980s I can remember articles, rumours and conversations speculating on this subject. Scott, Sigourney Weaver and so many others have put forward their own flights of fancy about a new Ridley Scott Alien movie, that it can scarcely be imagined that the new film live up to the weight of expectation.

As one commenter on our article about the news mentioned, it’s guaranteed at the very least that the movie is going to look fantastic; Scott’s visual stylings have influenced a generation of film-makers. Blade Runner alone remains a continuing source of inspiration for science-fiction movies and SF production design.
