Tribune to sell Cubs, Wrigley to Ricketts family

Chicago Sun Times – Tribune Co. at last made it official today — it has sold the Chicago Cubs to the Ricketts family.

The company said the deal was for $845 million and allows Tribune to retain a 5 percent ownership stake. Company boss Sam Zell used the retention of a small interest to reduce taxes from the sale.

The sale includes Wrigley Field and Tribune’s 25 percent interest in Comcast SportsNet Chicago.

Closing on the sale still requires consents from Major League Baseball and the federal bankruptcy court.

Tribune is in bankruptcy and negotiating with lenders over a $13 billion debt load. How the proceeds of the Cubs sale will be handled will be decided at future hearings.

Brett Favre Officially a Viking

TMZ – Team officials have confirmed Brett Favre will be playing for the Minnesota Vikings.

The deal is reportedly worth between $10-12 million.

Favre, 39, has scheduled a presser for 6pm EST.

TMZ is reporting that Charles Barkley was arrested for DUI in Arizona after a long night of partying at the Dirty Pretty Rock Bar. But I guess times are really tough if you can afford a 2100 bar tab.

RIP VHS: Dead at 32 after long illness. Will be buried in black plastic coffin, whereupon it will collect dust forevermore.

I’m more amazed at the guy’s business. What a good idea and he seems to be doing well.

Basically after all this time someone was still selling VHS tapes. After all the big guys stopped he is now the last distributor out there and it’s over.
